CU3E [read CUBE] has started as an Intro to Programming assignment. Its my first exposure to coding so I didnt know what to expect at first. I can happily say that I’m beginning to get the hang of C# and I am really enjoying it. It was made clear to me how important a tool it is for a game designer to know how to code at a basic level in the very least. It helps to put together basic prototypes and will of course allow you to communicate with programmers more efficiently. We are working in UNITY and are required to make a none polish prototype since the purpose is the programming itself.
Anyway, what has started out as an assignment is quickly turning into a passion project. I’m actually torn between working on CU3E, We’re Alive, and the Deus Ex Case Study. Its turning into one hell of a trimester. Lots of work. Lots of work that I enjoy as well.
As I said, this started as an assignment to get some programming experience under our belts. So I chose to build a stealth game prototype from the ground up inspired by some of my favourite stealth and open play games: Deus Ex Human Revolution, Splinter Cell, and Metal Gear.
As a prototype however, all game objects are expected to be basic primitives and grey box levels. That basic look inspired me to theme the game into a stealth game parody of sorts with personified cubes as the player and enemies. Got some crazy ideas floating around that I’ll blog about when I get the chance. Will also updates with a few more screen shots so everyone can see where I’m coming from and where this could go.
